My inspiration comes from my deep love for nature, the human form and the vast spectrum of human emotions. I am fascinated with the idea of shaping stones which are by definition the history and memories of the earth compressed by time.
I typically begin work on a piece with an idea in mind but once I have hammer and chisel in hand the stone seems to dictate the creative process. Often the natural beauty of the rock determines the cuts to be made as the possibilities become revealed.
The main theme in my work is a celebration of the material itself and feminine aspects of nature, the idea of transforming hard rock (and metal) in to soft, sensual forms. I am intrigued with the idea of creating sculptures that represent the complicated ideal of the feminine – hard yet soft, cold yet touchable, unyielding yet inviting.
